Zepto Seller Registration: Step by Step Onboarding Guide 2026

Zepto is one of the fastest routes to shelf space in urban India, but it is also one of the most selective. This guide walks through exactly what Zepto asks for, how the onboarding process runs end to end, what margins and terms to expect, and where most brands lose weeks unnecessarily.

    Who can sell on Zepto

Zepto onboards registered businesses, not individuals. You need a company or proprietorship with a GST registration in the state where your stock will be placed, and the brand name on your packaging must match the legal entity or be backed by a brand authorisation letter.

Zepto's assortment is deliberately narrow. Each category carries a limited number of SKUs per shelf, so the platform's category managers select brands based on category gap, pack size relevance for a 10 minute basket, and how ready the brand is to support demand. A brand with three sharp, well-priced hero SKUs is a far easier yes than a brand pitching a forty SKU catalogue.

    Documents required for Zepto onboarding

    • GST certificate in the selling entity's legal name
    • PAN card of the business entity
    • FSSAI licence for food, beverage, nutrition and supplement categories
    • Trademark certificate or trademark application receipt for the brand name
    • Brand authorisation letter if the seller entity is not the brand owner
    • GS1 barcodes (EAN) for every SKU, one unique code per pack size and variant
    • Cancelled cheque and bank details matching the GST entity

The Zepto onboarding process, step by step

Step one is category pitch. Zepto's category manager reviews your brand deck, pricing, pack sizes and differentiation before an account is created. This is where most rejections happen, and it is entirely a commercial conversation rather than a technical one.

Step two is vendor code creation and agreement signing, covering margin, payment terms, return handling and marketing commitments. Step three is catalogue upload: titles, images, net quantity declarations, FSSAI numbers, shelf life and EAN mapping. Step four is purchase order and warehouse placement, where your stock physically reaches Zepto's dark store network in your launch cities.

Once inventory is received against the first PO, listings switch live in those pin codes. From signed agreement to live listing, brands with clean documentation typically go live in 48 to 72 hours.

Margins, terms and commercials to plan for

Zepto works on a margin model rather than a pure commission model. Expect category margins broadly in the 20 to 35 percent range depending on category, plus contributions towards visibility, launch support and promotional participation. Payment cycles are typically 15 to 30 days from invoice.

Price your MRP and case pack with these deductions built in from the start. The most common mistake we see is a brand pricing for its own D2C site, then discovering after signing that quick commerce economics leave nothing for advertising.

Getting visibility after you go live

    • Run Zepto Ads on category and competitor keywords from week one while your organic rank builds
    • Keep in stock: out of stock days reset ranking momentum faster than on any marketplace
    • Optimise pack shots for a small mobile tile, where the pack must be readable at thumbnail size
    • Use launch offers and combo packs to lift basket value and repeat rate
    • Track city-level and dark store level sell-through weekly, then expand only into stores that convert

Where brands lose time, and how to avoid it

Nine out of ten delayed Zepto launches trace back to three things: GS1 barcodes not generated, a mismatch between the GST legal name and the brand authorisation, or FSSAI categories that do not cover the products being listed. All three are fixable in advance and all three cost weeks when discovered mid-process.

TRIANGAL runs a documentation audit before the first application is submitted, handles the category pitch and vendor code process, builds the catalogue, and manages advertising after launch, so the brand deals with one accountable team instead of five separate vendors.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does Zepto seller onboarding take?+

With documents ready, 48 to 72 hours from signed agreement to live listing. The category pitch and approval stage before that typically takes one to two weeks.

Is FSSAI mandatory to sell on Zepto?+

Yes for food, beverages, nutrition and supplements. Non-food categories such as cosmetics, home care and general merchandise do not need FSSAI but may need other category certifications.

    What margin does Zepto take?+

Typically 20 to 35 percent depending on category, plus optional visibility and promotional spends. Terms are negotiated per brand during vendor code creation.

Can a new brand with no sales history get listed on Zepto?+

Yes. Zepto onboards new brands regularly, but the pitch has to show a clear category gap, quick commerce appropriate pack sizes and the ability to service demand consistently.

Do I need my own warehouse to sell on Zepto?+

No. Stock is supplied against purchase orders into Zepto's dark store network. You need the ability to fulfil POs reliably, which TRIANGAL can handle through its fulfilment support.
