Swiggy Instamart Seller Onboarding for Brands

Instamart is a curated shelf, not an open marketplace. Brands are selected by category managers, stocked into dark stores and judged on sell-through within weeks. This guide covers what Instamart asks for, how the commercials work and what a launch actually needs to survive its first month.

    Who Instamart onboards

Instamart works with registered businesses holding GST in the state where stock will be placed, with FSSAI for any consumable and trademark backing for the brand name. Individuals and unregistered resellers are not onboarded.

Selection is commercial. Category managers look for a gap in the current assortment, pack sizes suited to an instant basket, and a brand that can support demand without stocking out. Three sharp hero SKUs win approval far more often than a wide catalogue.

Documents to prepare before you pitch

    • GST certificate matching the state of stock placement
    • PAN of the business entity
    • FSSAI licence covering every product category you intend to list
    • Trademark certificate or application receipt, plus a brand authorisation letter if applicable
    • GS1 EAN barcodes for every pack size and variant
    • Cancelled cheque and bank details in the GST entity name
    • Product pack shots, net quantity declarations and shelf life details

    How the onboarding runs

First a category pitch covering pricing, pack architecture, differentiation and marketing support. Then vendor code creation and agreement signing, which fixes margin, payment terms, return handling and visibility commitments. Then catalogue upload with images, attributes and EAN mapping. Finally a purchase order and stock placement into dark stores in the launch cities.

Listings switch live in those pin codes once inventory is received against the first PO. Expect two to four weeks from first pitch to vendor code, and one to two weeks from code to live listings.

Margins and terms to plan for

Instamart runs a margin model. Category margins generally sit in the 20 to 35 percent range, with additional spends towards listing visibility, launch support and promotional participation. Payment cycles are commonly 15 to 30 days from invoice.

Price your MRP and case pack with those deductions built in. Brands that price for their own D2C store almost always find there is no room left for advertising once quick commerce economics apply.

    Surviving the first month

    • Run Instamart Ads from week one on category and competitor keywords while organic rank builds
    • Protect availability: repeated out of stock days remove you from the shelf faster than weak sales
    • Design the pack front to be readable as a small mobile thumbnail
    • Use combos and introductory offers to lift basket value and repeat purchase
    • Review city and dark store level sell-through weekly, then expand only where it converts
